The LSI / Broadcom MegaRAID SAS 9440-8i is a professional SATA / SAS RAID controller for servers and workstations that lets you increase the number of connected hard drives. The RAID controller coordinates them and groups them together to manage read and write access. The controller offers a PCIe x8 3.1 port as well as 8 internal ports for SATA or SAS drives via 2 miniSAS SFF-8643 ports. This is the OEM version of the controller card, branding by Dell and others is possible. The chipset used is Broadcom SAS3408 and it’s universally compatible with all known brands. Full and low profile brackets for installation are included.
The RAID controller functions as a hardware intersection for storage devices and their coordination.
